National Alpaca Farm Days - Preparing

NAFD is an annual event that happens all over the United States; alpaca farms are open to the public to give visitors a taste of the "alpaca lifestyle". We typically have over500 visitors each year...visitors are taking a selfie taken with an alpaca, visiting the Great Pyrenees livestock guardians, chickens and the bees, and checking out our newly enlarged studio and country Mercantile, The Fuzzy Wuzzy! The Bees Are In Full Production!

Collins and his son Doug are now official beekeepers! The winter of 2018/19 was harsh, and we lost the entire hive; but we ordered new ones and now we have two "live hives"...next time you visit Sandollar Alpacas, you will have something new to see!

Sandollar's Fuzzy Wuzzy Studio & Farm Store

Most of our customers know that we had an alpaca boutique store in downtown Kennewick, WA for several years. It was a great way to get to know a lot of new customers and introduce them to alpacas and the products available from their fleece.

Collins is also an extremely talented leather artisan, and it was also a wonderful to showcase all the custom leather goods that Collins is able to produce! Think cell phone and tablet cases, holsters, belts, etc.

Training Alpacas is Such Fun!

Well, I have been working with the show string two or three times per week now for two weeks in preparation for going to CABA this year in May. We started with a "midline catch" and then a "bracelet" hold...a few select head and mouth works, introduction of the halter and then introduction of the lead.
